Arrow of Light Ceremony

Recently, we were asked to create a cake for a Cub Scout Arrow of Light Ceremony. This is the highest achievement (as I understand it) in Cub Scouts. We were told there were three boys receiving this award, and then given free reign on what to create! So, we googled....a favorite tool for inspiration, and ideas. What we saw was less than impressive. Seriously...a sheet cake with an arrow on it? Pretty boring. So we created our own design (which we usually do, but typically we have ideas to draw inspiration from...not this time) and we were pretty happy with the end result! We didn't actually attend the event, but we were told that everyone loved the cake! I sure hope so, because it too quite a bit of time! It was definitely a fun one though, and through the process we learned a lot of new tricks and ideas we hope to use on future cakes!

More Cake anyone?

This is a busy, but exciting week! One cake down, one to go on top of everything else going on! We're working on a Cars 2 cake this week. This will be the fourth Cars cake I have made (fortunately for Michelle it's her first...I believe), the first three were all different versions of Lightning McQueen (as pictured in one of the photos below). This time I'm pretty excited because it's a Cars 2 cake, but the request is for Francesco not McQueen! I mean really how many ways can you create a Lightning cake? I'm sure there are TONS more (and I really do enjoy making McQueen cakes), but it's nice for a change to be creating another character!

Mickey Mouse Cake

So, my friend Michelle and I have been creating cakes for several years, and when we have the time (among all the other things we have going on in our busy lives) we enjoy making cakes together. On this occasion, Michelle was asked to create a Mickey cake for a birthday and I had time to help her out on this one! I love this cake, super cute and not too challenging! And because my almost 4 year old FINALLY asked for something other than a Lightning McQueen cake this year I'll be making it again in January for his birthday! Seriously, I've done 3 (different) McQueen cakes, it's time for a change :-) So here it is:
